Yup it’s raining and there is really no way of getting around it I want to go and photograph but I also have concern for my gear.

It's raining

There are a few minutes between downpours, working quickly I ended up with the above photo.  It seems to fit the mood of the day Gloomy and drippy.  The evergreens of the Tongass National Forest make the best of such rainfall growing big and strong holding steadfast the thin soil that nourishes them.  I live in a rainforest, not tropical by any means, but classified by the amount of rainfall received.  Seattle is called the “rainy city” and they receive around 40-50 inches of rain a year, Sitka on the other hand gets upwards of 100 inches. For more gloom and macro fun check out my website.

Freakin’ low tide again people.  In the midst of this celebration I went to the shoreline of the park and had it all to myself.  What an event there was, stuff everywhere, those unsuspecting little animals got my camera in their face only to be left alone in wanting of the returning tide.  Good stuff.  The results are as follows:  If you like this there are some great high res shots on my site click HERE.

This blobby “wiener shaped thing” is a sea cucumber.  It’s kinda squishy but fun to find because if you give them a little squeeze they squirt water.

Seemingly ever present the chiton I ate one once it was pickled kinda gross it chewed like leather.

Sponge, beautiful and simple there is purple, green and yellow that I have seen.

A little gruesome This salmon got caught in the barrier net of the nearby salmon hatchery.

CRAB! close up of the ocular sensor of a crab.

That one salmon caught in the net did a really good job holding still so I could get a few shots of his “Fish eye lens”.

Beautiful shot of the hermit crab color.

This was neat there was a hermit crab that was using a barnacle shell as a house.

I waited for a while to get the above shot I eventually grabbed him and put him on a rock to get a better look, after which I carefully put him back in his tide pool.

Just for fun

There are times where things get a little serious, where I struggle to try to even make a photo that is really even worth a damn.  A those times of despair I often find it just best to put myself into another place, to make sure I am still having fun in the midst of trying to be a photographer.  To go and shoot with nothing in mind, perhaps it is in the midst of letting go that I have found that space to find the roots of purpose.  Separation of intent and expectation, a connection of subject and observer, in order to just stay sane.  Artists must keep looking at things differently in order to observe properly macro, micro, and whole-o.  Taking into account the wholeness of a scene as well as the details, keeping in mind the importance of line, composition, structure, intrinsic beauty and all in the perfect light.
